BullBear Trading: Stock and Financial Market Technical Analysis

Steven,

Could you please recommend some books, online courses, etc. that will teach me how to do charting? I am using the free stock charts service as you suggested and have read "Trade Like Jesse Livermore" in your library, but feel I need to take it to the next level. I want to learn how to draw and interpret trend lines, etc. and eventually master charting.

It's interesting that I once thought charting was tantamount to reading stars to predict the future, but realize now that not charting is like taking a cross country trip without a map.

First book you should read and then reread is "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" which is also in the Library.

"Getting Started in Technical Analysis" by Jack Schwager is easy to read and a great intro.

Just do an internet search for "technical analysis 101" or "learn stock charting" and you will have more resources at your disposal than you can possibly use.

StockCharts.com has a good tutorial section.

In my opinion the only way to trade successfully is to let the markets tell you what is really going on via the charts and other technicals. The problem then becomes to correctly interpret the market's message. That takes experience, patience and knowledge which is acquired over time. It's an art and a science.
